Log Home Exterior Shell

Logs

• Logs custom cut, thru-bolts, foam tape, caulking tape, spikes, splines, dowels, etha-foam gasket, caulking.

Trusses And Parallam

• Custom designed for your area, cantilevered overhangs give more room for insulation and ventilation, various designs include commons, gables, scissors, girders, and drop trusses.
• Truss joists used in most cathedral ceilings.
• Laminated ridge beams and point-load lintels.

Beams And Posts

• Pine interior support posts, porch beams, porch posts, and screwjacks.

Windows And Exterior Doors

• Windows are wood casement with high efficiency, low E, Argon gas filled and detachable wood grilles.
• Doors are insulated steel, pre-hung in wood frame, with foam weatherstrip, and P.V.C. clad wood threshold.
• Sliding glass doors, picture windows, and special fixed lite windows do not have grilles.
• Garage doors are raised-cedar sectional, complete with hardware, 2×6 subjambs and gaskets for windows and door openings.
• Traditionally styled 1×4 custom trim.
• Premium grade caulking included for sealing around windows and doors.

Materials to Close in the Shell

Subfloor

• 3″ teleposts, sill gaskets and plates, air barrier, built-up beams, floor joists, crossbridging, strapping, adhesive, 5/8″ tongue and groove sheathing, nails.

Interior Walls 

• 2×4 and 2×6 studs with nailers and plates, door lintels.

Gable Ends (On Trusses)

• 7/16″ aspenite sheathing, air barrier, 1x 8 pine siding, staples, nails.

Gable Ends (On Frame)

• All materials for Gable ends (On Trusses) plus 2×6 studs and plates (2×4 if applicable.)

Roof (On Trusses)

• 2×4 or 2×6 lookouts, 1/2″ spruce sheathing, 1/2″ H-clips, and 2×6 subfascia, 50 lb. rolled roofing, ice and water shield, metal drip edge, 20 year asphalt shingles, roof vents, nails, 24″ valley flashing.

Roof (On Frame)

• All materials for Roof (On Trusses) plus 2×8 rafters, 2×10 build-up for insulation , framing for joining roofs.

Dormers (Shed and Gable)

• All materials as specified for Roof (On Frame) and Gable Ends (On Frame) plus 7″ galvanized step flashing, 6″ wall-to-roof flashing.

Soffits And Fascia

• 1×6 tongue and groove soffit, 2″ continuous vent strip, trim, 1×8 pine fascia, nails.

Exterior Door Locks

• One handleset for main entry and quality deadbolt locks for remaining exterior doors.

Tarping

• All logs and lumber are tarped to protect materials from the elements.

Stain Package

• Best quality "Sikkens" stains for exterior and interior. Estimated for three coats.

Siding Package

• 2×12 log siding (same exterior profile as 6×12 log) with tongue and groove, to replace 1×8 siding on gable ends.

Insulation package

• R40 fiberglass batts for ceiling, R20 fiberglass batts for exterior frame walls, 6 mil. Certified poly vapour barrier, staples, and windstops as required.

Deck package

• All pressure treated material, 2×8 joists, hangers, built-up beams, 2×6 decking, 2×4 and 2×6 rails with 2×2 pickets, nails. Does not include supports or steps.

Custom Exterior Package

• Turned posts to replace 6×6 square posts, finials, gingerbread, 4×4 rosettes, cupola with rooster, custom wood shutters, beam trusses, gable vents.

Materials

• Logs are a natural product: recyclable, biodegradable, and renewable
• FSC certified sustainable forested wood, suppliers are required to meet standards for cutting and re-planting
• Locally grown trees reduces our carbon footprint due to transportation energy
• Air dried, as opposed to kiln dried which uses huge amounts of energy
• Thick log exterior walls mediate temperature differentials and improve energy efficiency
• Log walls eliminate the necessity for an interior wall that contains vapour barrier, drywall and paint, all materials that can produce toxic fumes and promote the growth of mould
• Low VOC stain finish interior and ext provides healthy air environment

Construction

• Only log home manufacturer in Canada to receive a CCMC rating that exceeds requirements for allowable air tightness
• Water shedding dovetail corner
• Deep tongue and groove construction combined with sealant creates a double barrier for heat loss and draft protection

Design

Waste from the manufacturing process

• Saw dust is collected through a vacuum system and stored in a dry silo, the saw dust is picked up by a group of local farmers and used for animal bedding in their live stock operation. It is all clean and dry sawdust as we have not treated the raw material with any type of pesticide
• Dry log ends and Dove Tail off cuts are bagged with recycled bags as they come off the cutting equipment and sold to local camp site facilities to provide fire wood to campers. This saves our forest by reducing the amount of trees cut just for camp fires
• Any short pieces of the logs are stacked on pallets and sold to marinas, they use the log blocks to store boats on over the winter. These blocks last many years even untreated
• Many pallets are reused to send material to jobsites
• We re-use lumber wrap we receive to cover out going shipments, we re-use pallets we receive for out going shipments
• Any seconds of raw material is cut into useful shop material such as stickers (used to dry the logs), wood work horses to build the timber frames on, etc.

Administration

• Do not print unless necessary
• Reuse blank side of paper for other printing and note paper
• Recycle printer cartridges to HP or Staples
• Leave lights off in filing room when room not in use
• Leave lights off when using computer monitor and not writing, and during hot days in summer
• Turn heat down each evening and weekend.
